What is this site about?
It's not about me. It's about programming and discovering new and fascinating things with technology. It is here not just to impart knowledge to software developers, but to bring a positive perspective to the community.
- Title
The title came from my desire to pay homage to my first serious programming language, which is Perl. I was a bit unusual and started with Perl in 2001. - Pearls?
Perl is a homonym for pearl, which is a treasured possession. To me, knowledge is a treasured possession. Perl is founded on the principles of freedom and utility—it exists to solve problems. And it is open, so programmers can solve those problems.
Website mission
Programming can be exhilarating and fulfilling, but I can do more good by also documenting my discoveries and teaching others what I learn. Plus, I really like reading technical trade books more than actually writing code. Here's my visualization of my impact.
